An authentic local capture of the cartridge. The visual guides below explain the decisions to look for.
Racer increases its speed as cars are passed, up to three speed levels in the base rules. The road advances more often at higher speeds. Prepare for the change by reading traffic farther ahead instead of waiting for the familiar distance near the bumper.
Your old timing window gets smaller
At the slowest speed, the road waits more steps between movements. At the fastest, it advances every step. A gap that once gave you time to hesitate may no longer do so. Keep the same careful lane checks, but perform them earlier. The change is in available time, not in the number of lanes.

Pass count drives endless progression
In endless mode, speed rises with the number of cars passed. The current configuration uses twelve passes per increase and caps at speed three. That gives you a reason to anticipate pressure after a successful opening. Do not treat the faster section as a random surprise that requires abandoning your traffic-reading habit.
Journey can start you in the pressure
Later levels can begin at speed two or three. A fresh attempt therefore does not always include a slow warm-up. Read the stage and be ready from the first visible traffic. If you need to rebuild confidence, practise an earlier board deliberately rather than expecting the later stage to ease you into its pace.

Boost is another change on top
Boost moves the road two rows per game step, regardless of the starting speed. At speed three that is twice the ordinary road movement; at slower speeds the contrast is larger. It still leaves less time for a lane decision than ordinary driving. If your unboosted lane changes already feel late, practise those first, then add a burst for a clear scoring or objective reason.
What changes at the twelfth pass
In an endless run starting at speed one, the first twelve ordinary passes are scored at that opening speed. At the end of the step that reaches twelve, the road changes to speed two. The next ordinary pass is then normally worth 20 rather than 10 points. Reaching twenty-four passes takes the run to speed three, the cap. The higher score is evidence of a changed setting, not a reason to stop looking at the road.
Without boost, one row of road movement takes three 90-millisecond steps at speed one, two at speed two, and one at speed three. A six-row approach therefore represents roughly 1.62, 1.08 or 0.54 seconds, before allowing for the current movement cycle. That example explains why the same visible distance can feel suddenly less forgiving. You do not gain extra lanes or a larger car; your earlier decision point needs to move farther away from the bumper.
Why a later stage speeds up sooner
Journey uses its starting speed as the baseline for pass-based increases. THIRD GEAR and NITRO begin at speed two, so twelve passes already take them to the maximum; they do not wait for twenty-four. FLAT OUT and GRAND PRIX begin at three and stay capped. If the opening of a later stage feels unlike endless play, check that starting condition before blaming the controls. Boost has its own fixed fast movement, so compare ordinary traffic before judging how a speed increase affected your reactions.
A focused practice attempt
On an endless attempt, watch for each speed change and consciously move your attention higher up the road. On the next attempt, begin that scan before the change arrives. Compare whether the first difficult car at the new speed still surprises you.
